Secretary DARE advocates for global partnerships to reform agricultural education

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare announced on 22 October 2026 that Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary of DARE, has called for a reimagining of agricultural higher education. Speaking virtually at a roundtable in the United States, he emphasized the need for industry-academia collaboration and international knowledge exchange to tackle challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss.

Namami Gange Programme implements diverse wastewater treatment technologies

The Press Information Bureau stated on 21 October 2026 that the Namami Gange Programme (NGP), launched in 2014, is using a technology-neutral approach to treat wastewater across 10 Ganga basin states. The programme has undertaken 219 projects worth an estimated ₹35,664 crore, creating 4,341 MLD of sewage treatment plant (STP) capacity out of a target of 6,603 MLD.

First National SARAS Mela outside Delhi-NCR held in Vijayawada

The Ministry of Rural Development announced on 21 October 2026 that the National SARAS Mela is being held in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, from 13 October to 31 October 2026. This event is the first of its kind outside the Delhi-NCR region and features around 1,500 women entrepreneurs from 34 states and UTs showcasing products in over 650 stalls.

Government launches next phase of UDAN scheme with Rs 28,840 crore outlay

The Press Information Bureau announced on 20 October 2026 that the next phase of the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) regional connectivity scheme was launched on 4 July 2026. This phase, running from FY 2026-27 to FY 2035-36, allocates Rs 28,840 crore to develop 100 airports and 200 helipads, and provide Viability Gap Funding for airlines.

India targets 105.56 GW pumped storage capacity by 2035-36

The Press Information Bureau announced on 19 October 2026 that India is scaling up Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs), which act as "water batteries" to store renewable energy. The Central Electricity Authority has mapped a pathway to commission 100.81 GW of new projects by 2035-36, bringing total capacity to 105.56 GW.
