Government launches shipbuilding insurance and sets 2027 deadline for port reforms

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways announced on 13 October 2026 that the 21st Maritime State Development Council meeting in Mumbai has set new targets for maritime growth. The government launched two credit risk insurance products, the Shipbuilding Project Credit Risk Insurance Policy for export projects and the Business Credit Shield Policy–Shipbuilders for domestic projects, to protect shipyards from payment delays.

Mormugao Port Authority and Stella Mary’s College partner for industry-academia collaboration

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways announced on 9 October 2026 that the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) and Stella Mary’s College of Engineering, Tamil Nadu, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 7 October 2026. The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia through knowledge-sharing and cooperation.
