Inaugural Chhattisgarh Hockey League launches in Raipur

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced on 21 October 2026 the launch of the inaugural Chhattisgarh Hockey League (CHL) in Raipur. Organised by the Government of Chhattisgarh and sanctioned by Hockey India, the league features six franchise teams and 132 players to strengthen grassroots sports.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced on 17 October 2026 that it has launched the second month of the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat 100 Week Sankalp Abhiyan. This phase, themed “Fit Youth, Addiction-Free Youth (Shakti evam Seva),” began with the nationwide observance of Yoga and Self-Defence Day on 16 October 2026.

Sports Minister urges National Sports Federations to build wider talent pipeline

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced on 15 October 2026 that National Sports Federations (NSFs) must take more responsibility for India's sporting performance following a 4th place finish at the 2026 Asian Games. Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya stated that India needs a continuous pipeline of champions and more experts in sports psychology and science to sustain medal-winning ambitions.

India to host BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Demonstration Games in Ahmedabad
