India targets 105.56 GW pumped storage capacity by 2035-36

The Press Information Bureau announced on 19 October 2026 that India is scaling up Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs), which act as "water batteries" to store renewable energy. The Central Electricity Authority has mapped a pathway to commission 100.81 GW of new projects by 2035-36, bringing total capacity to 105.56 GW.

First Kanda Express onion shipment to reach Agartala by October 18

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution announced on 16 October 2026 that it is expanding the distribution of buffer onions from the Price Stabilization Fund to the North-East. A shipment of approximately 440 MT of onions is expected to reach Agartala, Tripura, by 18 October 2026 to ensure affordable prices before the festive season.

CBN destroys 5,165 acres of illicit cannabis in Himachal Pradesh

The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) announced on 14 October 2026 that it destroyed 5,165 acres (2,070 hectares) of illicit cannabis cultivation in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. This operation, named "Operation Parivartan," took place over one month and used drone technology and ground surveys to locate crops at altitudes up to 3,500 metres.

PM GatiShakti evolves into nationwide digital infrastructure planning framework

The Press Information Bureau reported on 12 October 2026 that the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, launched on 13 October 2021, has evolved into a nationwide planning framework. It uses a GIS-based platform to coordinate infrastructure projects across 58 Central Ministries and 36 States and Union Territories to save cost and time.
