NHAI introduces stricter monitoring of toll plaza toilet cleanliness

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on 12 October 2026 a new mechanism to ensure the upkeep of toilet blocks and other facilities at toll plazas. NHAI officials will now conduct weekly inspections, and agencies failing to meet standards will receive show-cause notices and be required to upload corrective action photos to the Data Lake portal. Agencies that fail to resolve deficiencies at 10% or more of their operated toll plazas will be barred from NHAI bids for 15 days or until issues are fixed. The release does not say when this takes effect, but it applies to publicly funded and NHAI-appointed toll plazas.
