CBIC discusses GST procedural reforms and compliance measures in Nagpur

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) held a stakeholder outreach programme in Nagpur on 16 October 2026 to discuss GST procedural reforms recommended by the 57th GST Council meeting. The session focused on simplifying compliance through measures such as automated system-based refunds and the proposed withdrawal of arrest-related provisions. New rules for vehicle inspections were highlighted, requiring written authorisation from a Joint Commissioner or higher officer and limiting checks to the originating and destination states. The release does not say when these reforms take effect, though a draft framework for faceless assessment will soon be released for public comment.
