Union Secretary reviews trout farming and coldwater fisheries in Uttarakhand

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying announced on 18 October 2026 that Union Secretary Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi visited Munsyari, Uttarakhand, to review coldwater aquaculture. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the government has invested over ₹2,299 crore in six hilly states and UTs to support infrastructure like hatcheries and feed mills. In Uttarakhand, the Trout Protsahan Yojna aims to establish 1,500 raceways and other facilities by 2028–29. These initiatives benefit farmers in border villages by diversifying livelihoods and enabling exports, such as Uttarakhand's first trout export to Nepal in June 2026.
