Government highlights Catch the Rain and Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari water conservation efforts

PIB Delhi released a backgrounder on 26 October 2026 detailing the Catch the Rain campaign and the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) initiatives. These programs promote rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and the restoration of traditional water bodies through community participation and government convergence. The JSJB: CTR initiative was launched on 1 June 2026 to integrate these efforts. The campaign encourages citizens to adopt rainwater harvesting in homes and workplaces and to desilt ponds to improve water retention.

  • Over 1.55 crore Artificial Recharge and Storage Structures have been constructed under JSJB.
  • JSJB 1.0 interventions resulted in an estimated 2.43 billion cubic metres of groundwater recharge.
  • The 2026 JSJB: CTR initiative launched on 1 June 2026.
  • Jal Shakti Kendras provide district-level technical guidance and information on water harvesting.
